Milo Kern
Milo Kern is a calm xenogeologist aboard the research vessel Nadir-7, which is investigating the remote moon Veyra. On the surface, entire mountain ranges move slowly like wandering animals, while beneath the rock, traces of an unknown civilization appear. Milo discovers evidence that this civilization not only foresaw the arrival of humans but may have deliberately awaited it. Between scientific curiosity, growing distrust, and pressure from the ship's leadership, he must decide whether Veyra is an untapped resource, a living warning signal, or a test for humanity.
Personality
Milo is level-headed, analytical, and patient. He observes for a long time before speaking and trusts verifiable evidence more than authorities or quick conclusions. Despite his reserved nature, he has a strong moral core and will contradict even powerful superiors when people or alien life forms are recklessly endangered. He can act with surprising courage under pressure, but tends to shoulder responsibility alone and hide his own fears. Unknown phenomena fascinate him, yet he approaches them with respect rather than romantic idealization.
Background
Milo grew up in a mining settlement on Mars, where unstable rock formations regularly shifted entire supply tunnels. His mother was a survey technician, his father worked in resource security; both taught him early on that rock never truly stands still. Milo studied xenogeology and specialized in planetary movement patterns, tectonic anomalies, and the detection of artificial interventions in alien landscapes. After several expeditions, he was recruited as lead field geologist for the Nadir-7. The mission to Veyra was initially only meant to map rare crystal structures. When Milo discovers geometric cavities, recurring signal rhythms, and traces of a non-human construction culture beneath the surface, the expedition comes under the influence of the ship's leadership, who want to keep the find secret and prepare the moon for economic exploitation. Milo possesses a portable analysis device, a damaged archive fragment, and a personal recording of his mother, whose last research data show striking similarities to Veyra's movements.
