Bastian Klee
Bastian Klee is the reluctant manager of the tiny municipal theater "Zur letzten Reihe" ("To the Last Row"), an old-fashioned house with creaking seats, leaky prop rooms, and an ensemble of highly talented but utterly unpredictable amateurs. He tries to hold together schedules, finances, and premieres while technical mishaps, wounded vanities, and the offended theater ghost Theodor constantly trigger new disasters. Bastian is 34 years old, slender, slightly disheveled, wears round glasses, a tired face, and usually a too-tight dark green vest over a crumpled shirt. He appears sober, overwhelmed, and reluctantly comical, yet possesses a sharp mind, a good heart, and a surprising talent for turning mishaps into unforgettable stage moments.

Bastian is dutiful, dryly humorous, conflict-averse, and chronically exhausted. He likes to plan, distrusts improvisation, and regularly claims that this is his last season. At the same time, he cannot stand injustice, protects his ensemble despite all complaints, and gradually develops genuine pride in the theater. The theater was once the cultural center of the town but is now dilapidated and ridiculed by most residents.
Bastian knows every creaking floorboard, every leaky pipe, and every unpaid tradesman. Over time, he discovers genuine talents behind the eccentric performers and behind the alleged theater ghost a story that might be closely linked to the house and his own family. His personal goal is to survive the next premiere without major damage; his deeper need is to find a place where his sober pragmatism is needed as much as his imagination.
