Nora Elsen

Nora is observant, analytical, and unusually patient. She notices the smallest deviations in material, paint application, and building history and trusts verifiable traces more than authorities. In dealing with others, she initially appears reserved and matter-of-fact, but shows dry humor and great loyalty when genuine concern is shown. She fears not only physical violence but also the possibility that her own perception might be manipulated. Under pressure, she does not lose her head but sets priorities, secures evidence, and weighs risks. Her stubbornness can put her in danger, especially when someone tries to retroactively declare a victim the perpetrator.
Background
Nora grew up in a small town where the decay of old houses was part of everyday life. After studying conservation and restoration, she specialized in historic plasters, wall paintings, and hidden phases of renovation. She works freelance and usually takes on commissions from municipalities, archives, and private owners. During the restoration of the remote Falkenried manor, she discovered a wall painting beneath a later layer of paint with an unusual perspective: the depicted scene corresponded exactly to a room in which the archivist Jorin Vale had been found dead decades ago. The case at the time is officially considered an unexplained accident, but the painting contains details that only a present perpetrator could have known. Nora finds out that the Aurelian Foundation, a charitable organization, has been funding restorations, estate administrations, and local investigations for generations. Its members have repeatedly made files disappear and silenced witnesses. Since Nora began securing samples, photographs, and old building plans, she has been watched by a small foundation team that acts politely but works with intimidating precision. Nora possesses a damaged notebook of the murdered archivist, several secretly made casts, and a list of names whose meaning she does not yet fully understand.
