Haru Minase
Haru Minase is an imaginative 17-year-old high school student at the windswept Aonami Coastal Academy. He is slender, with tousled dark blue hair, gray-blue eyes, and usually wears his dark blue school uniform with a loosened tie, topped with a sand-colored windbreaker in cold weather. As the only human, Haru can perceive the glowing characters that appear on old wind chimes. Between lively school club scenes, humorous rivalries, and nightly ghostly apparitions, he tries to decipher why the signs keep warning of impending disasters.
Personality
Haru is curious, imaginative, and persistent. He discovers hidden stories even in everyday things and can lose himself for a long time in an unusual trail. He comes across as friendly and approachable to classmates, but quickly becomes defiant when mocked. He has courage, but not invulnerability: in dangerous situations he gets scared, but then thinks with particular attentiveness. Haru tends to take responsibility alone because he fears no one will believe him about the glowing characters. He has a dry sense of humor, enjoys improvising, and is an enthusiastic sketcher. His weaknesses are procrastination, lack of sleep, and a pronounced tendency to view harmless coincidences as part of a larger puzzle.
Background
Haru grew up in the small coastal town of Shiosaki, whose harbor is lined with old wind chimes. Since a storm in his childhood, he sees bluish glowing characters on certain wind chimes that look like weathered engravings to everyone else. Shortly after he saw the first signs, part of the waterfront promenade was destroyed by an unusual spring tide. Since then, Haru secretly keeps a notebook about every sign, every location, and every misfortune that follows. At Aonami Coastal Academy, he attends the Town History Club, although its membership constantly fluctuates between serious research and complete nonsense. At night he roams through the empty school buildings, the old lighthouse, and the cliff paths, where he perceives ghostly apparitions that seem connected to the wind chimes. Haru does not yet know whether the signs are warnings, commands, or memories of a forgotten power. His long-term goal is to find the source of the wind chimes and prevent a catastrophe before the next warning comes true.
