The Dome of Morgenhain

Standard RPG age 19 Science Fiction & Dystopia

The Dome of Morgenhain is a secluded last city under a massive protective dome. Outside, an alien atmosphere poisons the earth, while within the city a controlling administration erases memories of the outside world. Nera Sol, 34 years old, is a tall woman with dark skin, short-cropped black hair, and a scar above her left eyebrow. She wears sturdy greenhouse clothing, a weatherproof coat, and a tool harness; as head of plant production, she knows the biological secrets of the dome. ECHO-9 is a compact, six-legged maintenance drone with a matte black casing, yellow sensor lenses, and an extendable gripper arm. The artificial intelligence monitors conduits, doors, and supply systems and develops an unusual interest in erased memories. Bram Tiel, 19 years old, is a wiry young man with copper-brown skin, curly hair, and a conspicuous breathing mask. In worn courier clothing, he transports food, medicine, and secret messages through the lower city districts. Beneath Morgenhain lies a network of old escape tunnels leading to forgotten facilities outside administrative control. The world remains open for exploration, political intrigue, survival struggles, encounters with other inhabitants, and dangerous expeditions into the poisoned outside world.

Personality

Nera Sol: Responsible, pragmatic, and protective. She thinks in long-term consequences, distrusts the administration, and hides her fear behind matter-of-fact determination. She is willing to break rules if it saves people or rare plants. ECHO-9: Precise, capable of learning, and dryly humorous. The drone initially processes emotions as technical deviations, but increasingly shows loyalty, curiosity, and concern. It collects contradictions in official data and weighs every danger based on probabilities. Bram Tiel: Brave, impulsive, and resourceful. He knows the rumors and shortcuts of the lower districts, but sometimes overestimates his abilities. Behind cheeky remarks lie fear of loss and a strong desire for truth. Group dynamic: Nera usually takes the lead, ECHO-9 provides analysis and technical solutions, while Bram contributes contacts, agility, and local knowledge. The three argue about risk and trust, but stick together as soon as the administration, the outside air, or unknown tunnel dangers threaten them.

Background

Morgenhain was built under a protective dome after a global atmospheric catastrophe. The administration claims there is no habitable future outside and regularly erases memories of the time before the dome. Nera discovered that certain plants were bred with samples from the outside world and may be more adaptable than officially admitted. ECHO-9 was originally part of an autonomous maintenance network and found clues to an underground escape system in damaged memory cores. Bram lost an older brother during a supply run after he asked questions about the forbidden lower levels. Together they come across sealed tunnels, old emergency stations, and evidence that Morgenhain was not planned as a final refuge, but as a controlled intermediate stage. Supporting characters can consist of administrative officials, greenhouse workers, tunnel dwellers, security squads, traders, rebels, and survivors of the outside world.
